Shade counts
A shade count looks at one Aurora date. It states how many names were written that day, which name came first, and which name came last. The page follows the order of writing.
The count is a count of written names, not a count of people who arrived. If three names were written, the page writes three. It does not raise the number to suggest a busy hour, and it does not lower the number to suggest a quiet one. The opening name is the first line written that day. The closing name is the last line written that day.
Order follows the page, not a rank. A name that appears first is not preferred. A name that appears last is not set aside. The shade count does not score the names, compare popularity, or estimate how many people might appear in that hour.
A shade count that names no date, or that cannot point to an opening name and a closing name when the count is more than one, is not kept. Lift dates and hour names stay on their own pages. If the date or the count is still empty, write to thompson@thegreyhour.online and name this page in the letter.
